Contact Lens Case Collection Activity for Plastic Resource Recycling Commences

On May 16, 2025, Menicon Co., Ltd. and Sendai City began a demonstration project related to resource recycling by establishing collection points for used contact lens cases at four locations within the city. This initiative aims to utilize collected cases as recycled plastic, in collaboration with Menicon’s “Menicon 1Case Project.”

Menicon is promoting research on plastic resource recycling utilizing NanoTerasu, based at the “Menicon x Tohoku University Co-creation Research Institute for a Future We Can See,” established within the Research Center for Green X-Tech at Tohoku University. The Co-creation Research Institute, with joint research with the Research Center for Green X-Tech as its hub, is advancing the latest technological developments utilizing NanoTerasu. Through these efforts, they aim to achieve plastic resource recycling and realize a sustainable society.
