Associate Professor Yoshiaki Kawagoe has been selected as one of the “NICE STEP Researchers 2025.
Associate Professor Yoshiaki Kawagoe of the Research Center for Green X-Tech (Green Goals Initiative, Tohoku University) has been selected for “Significant Contributions to Science and Technology 2025 (NICE STEP Researchers),” an initiative by the National Institute of Science and Technology Policy (NISTEP) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
The “NICE STEP Researcher” award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding achievements across various fields of science, technology, and innovation, and whose work brings inspiration to Japan. Since its inception in 2005, the selection has highlighted researchers of exceptional caliber; notable past awardees include Professor Shinya Yamanaka and Professor Hiroshi Amano, both of whom later became Nobel Laureates.
In 2025, the selection focused primarily on promising young researchers who are expected to play leading roles in the future. Ten researchers were chosen not only for their work on various societal issues across diverse fields—including meteorology, materials science, AI, life sciences, and folklore—but also for their commitment to sharing research achievements both within Japan and internationally.
Among these ten distinguished individuals, Associate Professor Yoshiaki Kawagoe from the Research Center for Green X-Tech was selected. His research theme is “Interdisciplinary Research on Aircraft Materials, Design, and Operation through Multi-scale Analysis.”
